Since 1996, the In-School
Youth Program (ISY) has provided
students age 14-18 with computer
training, SAT verbal and math tutoring and ESL
classes. We teach them the multimedia skills they
need to succeed either in college or in the workforce.
The CMP In-School Youth Program serves
low income youth who lack access to technology
training in New York City¡¦s large public schools.
The program serves two important functions:
improving English language skills (English is not
spoken in the majority of our students' home) while at the
same time helping students become more proficient
in multimedia applications. Together these tools
help students complete difficult college admissions
forms and also learn software programs that will assist
them in both academic and workplace settings.
Special features of ISY
¡E More than 90% of our students go on to college
¡E Field trips to cultural institutions throughout
the City
¡E Summer Youth Employment Program which
also includes classes on financial literacy
¡E One-on-One counseling available for academic/
life/employment issues than might arise |

Linda Li is a seventeen-year old student who spent two years
participating in CMP¡¦s In-School Youth Program. She lives with
her parents and brother in Brooklyn. Like many of our students,
she lives in a home with immigrant parents where very little English
is spoken at all, yet she has worked hard to overcome the obstacles
in life and move forward academically. Linda credits CMP
for helping her discover new opportunities available to her with
the right training and education.
In addition to the academic support and SAT tutoring she
received, Linda took part in our Summer Youth Employment
Program in both 2004 and 2005, working at Maimonides Medical
Center and the Lower East Side Service Center. In both positions,
she was praised for her strong work ethic and eagerness
to learn.
Currently a high school senior, Linda is looking forward to being
the first one in her family to attend college. She plans to study
business and ultimately go on to graduate school. Her long-term
goal is to work as an Accountant or Auditor for the federal government
or one of the large New York accounting firms.
Linda Li is a perfect example of what our students can achieve
with the right support and assistance. Her future looks bright and
we wish Linda all the success in the world as she pursues all of
her academic and personal goals.
